Remembering Prince’s Convictions

That the personal name of our creator the Almighty God is Jehovah:

1. Brother Nelson, like most of the 20 million associating with Jehovah’s Witnesses thought deeply about this: What is God’s personal name? We as humans name most everything with character. We name our children prior to their birth. Most parents think a lot about that name and hope it becomes something they and the child can be proud of. We name our pets according to the character we see in them. We name our cars and trucks according to a character either seen or imagined. We even name storms. In the Bible the first angel Michael is named, Satan the Devil is named, the false gods of the Bible all have names. It just seems odd that many Bibles don’t show God’s personal name though it’s abbreviation is in over 7000 Bible verses. Some claim they hide it because we do not know how it should be pronounced, however I feel if He is Almighty God, He can certainly influence how we pronounce His name. I am sure Brother Nelson felt that using the divine name actually draws us closer to Him.
We say God is Love, the phrase is true and we add that to the character we address as Jehovah. God is Just. God is Wise. God is Powerful. All these are even better defined when we attribute them to the person of Jehovah rather than an impersonal God. Read this verse from the New World Translation: Isaiah 43:10 “You are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “even my servant whom I have chosen, in order that YOU may know and have faith in me, and that YOU may understand that I am the same One. Before me there was no God formed, and after me there continued to be none. 11 I—I am Jehovah, and besides me there is no savior. Does this not sound like an invitation? Is He not asking us to come to know Him? Is He not defining a part of who He is?
One of the best ways to experience this is using His Name in prayer and one of the most powerful beginnings is the phrase: O’ Sovereign Lord Jehovah. Many may start with: Our Heavenly Father Jehovah or Our Loving Father Jehovah. When people are very depressed they may not know what to pray for, but He hears as their hearts cry out O’ Jehovah. A young man grew up in this world as Prince, yet he grew spiritually, and became so much more, so much so that he courageously went to knock on complete strangers doors that he might share this with them from the Bible as written at Psalms 83:18: May people know that you, whose name is Jehovah,You alone are the Most High over all the earth.
James 4:8 states in part: Draw close to God and He will draw close to you. Have you ever come to know and love someone so much and you never knew their name?
